Legal Framework

The Education Act, 1995, SS 1995 c. E-0.2, and The Home-Based Education Program Regulations made under the Act. Registration is with the parent's local school division (not directly with the Ministry of Education). The notice of intent and education plan must be filed annually. The plan must address: philosophical approach, reasons for home-based education, education activities and instructional methods, means of assessing and recording educational progress, and the learning outcomes and areas of study for each student. The parent or caregiver directing the program must lawfully have charge and custody of each student. Responsible authority: Saskatchewan Ministry of Education and the local school divisions.
