What Is the Best Waldorf Homeschool Curriculum for Grade 4?
There's no single best. For a complete grade 4 year today, look at Live Education!, Christopherus, Waldorf Essentials or Earthschooling. Oak Meadow suits families who want weekly lessons. Starpath Learning and Lavender's Blue are still writing grade 4, so they work for single blocks or alongside another curriculum.
For most families wanting a whole grade 4 year today, the choice is between Live Education!, Christopherus, Waldorf Essentials and Earthschooling. Each sells a complete grade 4, built around the Norse myths, the human being and the animals, local geography and fractions. Oak Meadow also sells a full year, in weekly lessons rather than main lesson blocks. Starpath Learning and Lavender's Blue are both still writing grade 4, and Enki's grade 4 isn't on sale yet.
So start with one question: do you need the whole year in your hands this autumn?
What grade 4 looks like
Read the grade 4 contents pages side by side and the same pictures keep coming up. The Norse gods and giants, and the making of Asgard and Midgard. The cow and the lion, each set beside the human being. A map of the place you live, starting close to home. And the first real fractions, folded from paper and shared out before they're written down.
Most children are 9 or 10 in grade 4. Every complete curriculum here builds its year from those four threads, then adds its own: Beowulf and the Kalevala in Live Education!, the Four Elements in Christopherus, Native American history in Earthschooling. If you'd like the whole year explained, our Waldorf grade 4 guide walks through it.
Question 1: Do you need the whole year now?
This decides more than anything else. If you want to open one set of books in September and know the year is there, choose a complete curriculum. Five sell one for grade 4: Live Education!, Christopherus, Waldorf Essentials, Earthschooling and Oak Meadow.
If you're happy to plan a block or two ahead, or you already have a curriculum you like and want to swap one piece, you have more room. That's where Starpath's single blocks and Lavender's Blue's math blocks come in.
Question 2: How much do you want to plan?
With under 30 minutes a day to plan, Waldorf Essentials lays out the main lessons for you, and Earthschooling organizes its year into planner blocks. With more time, and a love of the background reading, Christopherus and Live Education! give you depth to build from. Christopherus gives you a full schedule broken down by block, and you shape the daily lessons yourself.
If you want a person to talk the year through with, Waldorf Essentials runs free twice-monthly Zoom office hours. Its Live Support package adds coaching calls twice a month and planning help for a year. Live Education! includes a consultation when you start and another later in the year.

Christopherus
christopherushomeschool.com | $525, plus math sold separately | Early years to grade 8

Its main lessons are Man and Animal, the Norse myths, geography, math, Old Testament stories and the Four Elements, with form drawing, music, handwork and painting alongside. Math is a separate purchase: a $20 teacher's guide and a $25 workbook for each child, in US or metric measurement. You'll also need Arthur Auer's book on modeling, which Christopherus asks families to buy elsewhere. All sales are final. More in our Christopherus review.

Class 4 comes with laid-out main lessons, the year's form drawings and math lessons, handwork instructions and main lesson pictures. All sales are final. See our Waldorf Essentials review.

The options still being written
Starpath Learning
starpathlearning.com | $19 per block or $47 a month (14-day trial for $7) | Grades 1 to 3 complete, grade 4 being added
Disclosure: Starpath Learning is ours.
A Waldorf-inspired curriculum written by Sophie, a Waldorf class teacher with more than ten years' experience, inside a platform with a planner, portfolio and compliance tools. Three grade 4 blocks are published now:
- Norse Creation (15 days). Asgard, Midgard, the gods and the giants, with the year's language work woven in: complete sentences, subjects and predicates, parts of speech, paragraphs, summaries and dictation.
- Human and Animal (20 days). Your child looks at the human being as upright and balanced, then at animals shaped for their own lives: the cow, lion, chimpanzee, cuttlefish and dog. It ends with a small animal project: a labelled drawing, a habitat scene or diorama, and a short, informal talk about the animal.
- Introduction to Fractions (15 days). Folding, sharing, drawing and number lines come before anything is written down. By the end, your child can name simple fractions, compare them and work with tenths.
More blocks are being added through the year. To be plain about it: if you need the whole grade 4 year in hand today, choose one of the complete curricula above. Starpath fits families who are happy to start with these three and add blocks as they come, or who want one of these blocks alongside another curriculum. At $19, a single block is an easy thing to try.
Lavender's Blue
lavendersbluehomeschool.com | $47 per block | K-3, grade 4 in progress
Lavender's Blue says on its own page that its grade 4 is in progress. Two math blocks are ready. King Arthur Math is a three-week main lesson on fraction basics and long multiplication, told through the King Arthur stories. Harry Potter Fractions is a four-week block on factors, primes and working with fractions, meant as the last math block of the year. If you loved Lavender's Blue in grade 3, these can carry its voice into grade 4 math while you use something else for the rest.
Enki
Enki's grades 4 and 5 are in the final stage of development and aren't on sale yet, so it isn't a grade 4 option this year.
Combining two curricula
Many families end up doing this in grade 4. One complete curriculum carries the year, and one or two blocks from somewhere else take the place of a block you're less sure about. A fractions block from Starpath or Lavender's Blue in place of a book's math section, for example, or Starpath's Human and Animal block in the autumn term.
If you combine, lay the two contents lists side by side first. Both will likely have Norse myths and fractions, so decide which one teaches each, and skip the other.
Budget for grade 4
At September 2026 prices, a complete grade 4 costs $225 to $300 with Waldorf Essentials, or $575 with Live Support. Earthschooling is $350 and Live Education! $465 plus $65 US shipping. Christopherus comes to $570 once you add the math guide and one workbook. Oak Meadow's print package is $684.95. For a fuller picture, see How much does Waldorf homeschooling cost?
Supplies are on top of most of these: main lesson books, beeswax crayons or block crayons, watercolor paints, and yarn or thread for handwork.
Coming from grade 3
If you used Lavender's Blue or Starpath for grade 3, you're now meeting the question our grade 3 comparison warned about: grade 4 isn't finished yet. You don't have to switch everything. Some families keep the curriculum they know for the blocks that exist and fill the gaps from a complete one. Others move to a complete curriculum for this year. Either is a reasonable choice. The comparison hub lays out the main options side by side.
What to do this week
Answer the two questions: do you need the whole year now, and how much time do you have to plan each day? Then read the grade 4 contents page of the two curricula that fit, side by side, and pick the one you'd rather teach from each morning.

Frequently asked questions
+Which Waldorf curricula have a complete grade 4 year?
Live Education!, Christopherus, Waldorf Essentials, Earthschooling and Oak Meadow all sell a full grade 4 year. Christopherus sells its grade 4 math separately. Starpath Learning and Lavender's Blue are both still writing grade 4, and Enki's grade 4 isn't on sale yet.
+What do children study in Waldorf grade 4?
Most Waldorf curricula share the same main threads in grade 4: the Norse myths, the human being and the animals, the geography of your own area, and fractions. Some add more, such as Beowulf and the Kalevala in Live Education! or the Old Testament stories in Christopherus.
+Can I combine two curricula for grade 4?
Yes, and many families do. A common way is to use one complete curriculum as the backbone and swap in a single block you like better from another, such as a fractions block. Check that the two don't both teach the same topic in the same term.
+Is Starpath's grade 4 finished?
Not yet. Three grade 4 blocks are published (Norse Creation, Human and Animal, and Introduction to Fractions), and more are being added through the year. Grades 1 to 3 are complete.
+What's the cheapest complete Waldorf grade 4 curriculum?
At the prices published in September 2026, Waldorf Essentials digital ($225) and Earthschooling at its sale price ($350) are the lowest. Live Education! is $465 plus shipping, and Christopherus is $525 before its separate math books.

Read answerWhat Is Waldorf Grade 4 Curriculum?
Waldorf grade 4 brings the Norse myths, fractions, local geography and map-making, and the human being and the animal world, often a child's first science block. Grammar grows into parts of speech, verb tenses and paragraphs. Waldorf teachers often shape the year around the nine-year change, when many children start to feel separate from the world around them.
