Questions about homeschooling in Florida

Do I need to be a certified teacher to homeschool in Florida?

No. Under the Home Education Program (Option 1) or Umbrella School (Option 2), parents do not need any teaching certification.

Does the state pay for homeschooling?

Generally, no. However, the Personalized Education Program (PEP) and FES-UA scholarships administered by Step Up For Students can provide funds for curriculum and services for eligible students.

What if I move to a different county in Florida?

You must file a Notice of Termination with your old county and file a new Notice of Intent with the new county.

Can my homeschooler play sports at the public high school?

Yes. The Craig Dickinson Act allows home education students to participate in interscholastic extracurricular activities at their zoned public school.

Which Waldorf curriculum fits your family?

Four questions: your child’s age, the time you have each day, how close to a Waldorf school you want to be, and what matters most. Your answers are matched against the 8 curricula in our comparison. Starpath is one of them and gets no extra points. The result shows on the page, and you can have it emailed to you.

Answer the four questions

Dates come from published Florida requirements and are not legal advice. Laws change. Cross-check with the official state source and our full Florida guide.
