Questions about homeschooling in Louisiana
What is TOPS and why does it matter?
TOPS (Taylor Opportunity Program for Students) is a state scholarship program that pays for tuition at Louisiana public colleges. Only the BESE-Approved Home Study option qualifies students for TOPS.
Can I switch options?
Yes. You can switch, but be aware that years spent in the 'Registered Nonpublic School' option do not count toward the 2-year requirement for TOPS eligibility.
Do I have to test my child?
Only if you are in the BESE-Approved Home Study program and choose testing as your method of proving progress. Registered Nonpublic Schools do not require testing.

Which Waldorf curriculum fits your family?
Four questions: your child’s age, the time you have each day, how close to a Waldorf school you want to be, and what matters most. Your answers are matched against the 8 curricula in our comparison. Starpath is one of them and gets no extra points. The result shows on the page, and you can have it emailed to you.
Answer the four questionsDates come from published Louisiana requirements and are not legal advice. Laws change. Cross-check with the official state source and our full Louisiana guide.
